Mark Timm wins Scottish Title - November 2003

Mark Timm wins Scottish TitleMark Timm fought on the Kombat Force bill at the Maryhill Community Centre (Glasgow) on Saturday 22nd November. The show faced many call offs but the almost sell out crowd were entertained throughout the evening.

Mark was headlining the bill facing a heavier and more experienced opponent, Jamie MacKay. Mark was 4kg lighter and this showed early in the fight.

The start saw an exchange of kicks and punches from two fighters determined to dominate. Jamie clinched and delivered some excellent knees that were blocked by Mark. The clinch work then saw an excellent throw which put Mark into a kesegatame hold. Jamie was unable to make it work for him and Mark was able to escape and turtled up to protect himself from a barrage of punches from behind.

This went on for a while with Jamie a little bit unsure on what to do. Fortunately for Mark he never got a good position so when he turned Mark over for a rear choke he didn't have his hooks in enabling Mark to escape and turn into Jamies guard. Mark passed the guard but Jamie fought with the 1/2 guard despite being against the ropes. Mark started to work his punches to the body and open hand strikes to the head (as the rules demanded).

The referee stopped the fight to reposition the fighters back in the centre of the ring and within seconds of restarting Mark passed the guard and held mount. He worked down to a low mount in order to make use of his opportunity to punch. Putting pressure on the throat forced the strong MacKay to react and in doing so gave Mark his arm. mark won by an arm bar with 15 seconds of the first round left.

Both fighters put on a good performance and should be congratulated on a well skilled performance. Mark is Scottish Champion! We are still trying to work out what of though! ; )

Mark has now beaten two fighters both heavier and both with more fight experience, Chris Freeman from Gossport being his first victim.

Corner men: Pat Davies, Steven Moreland.
