WELCOME TO THE ABERDEEN MARTIAL ARTS GROUP
The belief that the study of many different arts can create the best environment for self-discovery and self-improvement drive the AMAG and Pat Davies' teaching. Pat Davies is the head instructor and founder of the AMAG. TEACHING PHILOSOPHY The Aberdeen Martial Arts Group offers Martial Arts training that interests and works for as many different people as possible. Our combative thoughts come from the idea that you should prepare for as many different kinds of situations as possible. This means developing skills in many different areas. There are generally five categories for training here.
Each category is composed of many different arts. Some arts are major influences and some have made smaller contributions. Students start out with the first general area in our programme that is the "Kickboxing arts". Muay Thai is featured prominently here as well as Panantukan, Jun Fan and western boxing. This area features lots of Thai Pad and Focus Mitt training as well as the Heavy Bag. Another area of study for our classes is the "Trapping" section. This area consists of several different arts and features the manipulations and short, powerful hits at close range. Art prominent here are: Kali, Jun Fan, Wing Chun, Muay Thai and Silat. Our grappling comes from many different disciplines and is trained in basic drills or in technique sequences. Ground fighting skills include -
As with the other categories we try to have something for each student. Our classes also include weaponry. Double stick is featured prominently initially because of the great co-ordination it develops. Other kinds of weaponry are also used and the emphasis on weapon training produces a great variety of movement patterns in the student that enhances their empty hand training. The training at the Aberdeen Martial Arts Group is safe, exciting and practical. Focus Mitts and Thai pads are the primary tools used to train the basics. The actual techniques are worked lightly with a partner or on protective equipment. Our training sessions are filled with good technical information, lots of sweat, thought and humour, "Fight Time" and personal reflection and research.
